California Restrictions

                                      Rifles

Prohibited

  • .50 caliber BMG rifles statewide, all .50 caliber guns in Los Angeles and San Francisco
  • Semi-automatic, centerfire rifles shorter than 30"
  • All rifles named in Appendices A, B, and C of the Calguns.net flow chart above
  • Semi-automatic, centerfire rifles with a fixed magazine over 10 rounds
             Note:  “fixed magazine” is defined by California SB 880/AB 1135 as: “an ammunition feeding device contained in, or permanently attached to, a firearm in such a manner that the device cannot be removed without disassembly of the firearm action.”
  • Semi-automatic, centerfire rifles shorter than 30"
       
         Note: Measurements must be taken with stocks in the collapsed or folded position if applicable.
  • Semi-automatic, centerfire rifles without a fixed magazine that include any of the following: Pistol grip, thumbhole stock, folding or telescoping stock, grenade or flare launcher, flash suppressor, foregrip
  • Complete AR lower receivers that include the above prohibited features or are named in Appendices A, B, or C in the Calguns.net flow chart above

                                      Shotguns

Prohibited

  • Shotguns with revolving cylinders
  • Semi-automatic shotguns with both folding/telescoping stocks and a pistol grip, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip
  • Semi-automatic shotguns that can accept any detachable magazine
  • Shotguns with tubular magazines where combined ammunition capacity is greater than 10 rounds and can be fired without manipulating the magazine selector switch, or that can be fired using a selector switch that allows the shooter to use ammunition from more than one tubular magazine without having to manually switch the magazine feeding process

Permitted

  • Shotguns with multiple tubular magazines that each hold 10 rounds or fewer and that must be manually switched from one tube to the other in order to use each group of ammunition
  • Semi-automatic shotguns with pistol grips and a fixed stock

                                      Handguns

  •  All handguns must be included on the California Department of Justice Handgun Roster
             Note: Single-action revolvers with at least 5 rounds, a barrel length of at least 3 inches, and an overall length of 7 1/2 inches as well as single-shot pistols that are top-break or bolt-action with a barrel length of at least 6 inches and have an overall length of at least 10 1/2 inches are permitted and do not have to be on the CADOJ Handgun Roster. Models listed on the Olympic Competition
    Pistol Roster are also permitted.

Prohibited

  • Semi-automatic pistols without a fixed magazine with any of the following: threaded barrel capable of supporting a flash suppressor, suppressor, or forward handgrip, a second handgrip, a shroud that attaches to the barrel that allows the bearer to fure the gun without burning their hand, or the capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside the pistol grip
             Note:  “fixed magazine” is defined by California SB 880/AB 1135 as: “an ammunition feeding device contained in, or permanently attached to, a firearm in such a manner that the device cannot be removed without disassembly of the firearm action.”

  • Handguns that exceed 10 round capacities
  • Mares Legs
  • In San Francisco and Los Angeles only: "ultra-compact" handguns with an overall length less than 6 3/4 inches and height (without magazine) less than 4 1/2 inches

                    Ammunition and Accessories                 

  • Ammunition to California can only go to an FFL Dealer or a Licensed Ammunition Retailer
  • We do not ship exploding targets to California
