Illinois Restrictions
- Customers must possess a valid Firearm Owner's ID (FOID) card to purchase firearms or ammunition
- To purchase a firearm, bring your FOID card to your local FFL when you pick up your firearm
- To purchase ammunition, you must send a copy of your FOID card and State ID before your purchase will be shipped
- Additionally, several counties and cities in Illinois have additional restrictions:
Cook County Restrictions
Rifles
Prohibited:
- Any semi-automatic rifles
- Any AR or AK receivers
Shotguns
Prohibited:

All semi-automatic shotguns with one or more of the following: pistol grip without a stock attached, any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand, a folding/telescoping/thumbhole stock, a fixed magazine capacity of more than five rounds, or an ability to accept a detachable magazine
- Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder
- Any shotgun with a fixed magazine capacity of more than five rounds
Handguns
Prohibited:
- Semi-automatic pistols with a detachable magazine and two or more of the following features: any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by a non-trigger hand, a folding/telescoping/thumbhole stock, a barrel shroud, a muzzle brake/muzzle compensator, or the capacity to accept a detachable magazine outside the pistol grip

- Ammunition without an FFL

- A semi-automatic rifle that has the capacity to accept a magazine with over 10 rounds and one or more of the following: only a pistol grip without a stock attached, any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand, a folding/telescoping/thumbhole stock, a shroud attached to the barrel or that partially or completely encircles the barrel in order to allow the bearer to hold the firearm with the non-trigger hand without being burned, or a muzzle brake or muzzle compensator
