Illinois Restrictions

  • Customers must possess a valid Firearm Owner's ID (FOID) card to purchase firearms or ammunition
  • To purchase a firearm, bring your FOID card to your local FFL when you pick up your firearm
  • To purchase ammunition, you must send a copy of your FOID card and State ID before your purchase will be shipped
  • Additionally, several counties and cities in Illinois have additional restrictions:

 

Cook County Restrictions

                                      Rifles                                     

Prohibited: 

  • Any semi-automatic rifles
  • Any AR or AK receivers

                                      Shotguns                                     

Prohibited: 

  • All semi-automatic shotguns with one or more of the following: pistol grip without a stock attached, any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand, a folding/telescoping/thumbhole stock, a fixed magazine capacity of more than five rounds, or an ability to accept a detachable magazine
  • Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder
  • Any shotgun with a fixed magazine capacity of more than five rounds

                                      Handguns                                     

Prohibited: 

  • Semi-automatic pistols with a detachable magazine and two or more of the following features: any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by a non-trigger hand, a folding/telescoping/thumbhole stock, a barrel shroud, a muzzle brake/muzzle compensator, or the capacity to accept a detachable magazine outside the pistol grip 

                      Ammunition and Accessories                     

Prohibited:

  • Ammunition without an FFL
  • Folding/collapsible/thumbhole stocks
  • Flash hiders/flash suppressors
  • Any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by a non-trigger hand
  • Box-type, detachable magazines with a capacity over 10 rounds in long-guns

 

City of Aurora

Prohibited: 

  • Any semi-automatic rifles
  • Any AR or AK receivers

                                      Shotguns                                     

Prohibited: 

  • All semi-automatic shotguns
  • Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder

                                      Handguns                                     

Prohibited: 

  • Semi-automatic pistols with a detachable magazine and two or more of the following features: an ammunition magazine that attached to the pistol outside of the pistol grip, a threaded barrel, a barrel shroud, an unloaded manufactured weight of 50 oz. or more, a semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm

                      Ammunition and Accessories                     

Prohibited:

  • Long gun magazines with a capacity of 15 rounds or more

 

City of Highland Park Restrictions

                                      Rifles                                     

Prohibited: 

  • Any AR or AK receivers
  • Any semi-automatic rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds
  • A semi-automatic rifle that has the capacity to accept a magazine with over 10 rounds and one or more of the following: only a pistol grip without a stock attached, any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand, a folding/telescoping/thumbhole stock, a shroud attached to the barrel or that partially or completely encircles the barrel in order to allow the bearer to hold the firearm with the non-trigger hand without being burned, or a muzzle brake or muzzle compensator
  • AK, AKM, AKS, AK74, ARM, MAK90 rifles
  • Misr, NHM 90, NHM 91, SA 85, SA 93, VEPR rifles
  • AR10
  • AR15, Bushmaster XM15, Armalite M15, or Olympic Arms PCR

  • Semi-automatic pistols that has a fixed magazine and the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds
  • Calico M-110, MAC-10, MAC-11, MPA3, Olympic Arms OA, TEC-9, TEC-DC9, TEC-22 Scorpion, AB-12, and UZI

                      Ammunition and Accessories                     

Prohibited:

  • Any long gun magazine with a capacity that exceeds ten rounds
